Let them Help Themselves Out of Poverty (LTHT)  grew out of an idea by Ida Horner of  Ethnic Supplies. Ida was approached by several people who either wanted to help or work with her in some way. One of these people is 65 year Old Ann McCarthy who was already working on a project in South West Uganda.

The people of Ruhanga  had already started a project that would draw tourists into their village but had come to a standstill having run out of money. This is where Ann’s involvement came in to play in helping them to find some money here and there so that they could realise their goal.

What the villagers wanted to achieve, was to create a stop over point for tourists going to see mountain gorillas, so they too could benefit directly from the tourism. The solution Ida came up with was to organise a fundraising dinner with theme of Let them Help Themselves Out of Poverty (LTHT) to enable the villagers to achieve their goals.

Let them help themselves is about giving communities the tools to address challenges in their day to day lives. We therefore work with communities at grass root level in order to meet needs in the areas of education, health care and financial independence as  identified by the community.
